Scope and Contents

This collection consists of ISTC ephemeral material including a “Program of Recitations” with annotations in the margins; two copies of the 1932 homecoming events booklet; a Publications Banquet program; a “Study” sign from the Bartlett Hall Self Governing Association; a postcard featuring the Campanile; and the text of the ISTC fight song.​  

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 36 postcards featuring University of Northern Iowa scenes throughout the school’s history. Many of the postcards contain personal correspondence, though not sent or received by the Bettles. They date as early as 1908, with some dating as late as 1955, with a variety of years in between. Writers and recipients vary and topics are generally quick life updates or bits of news.

This collection consists primarily of ephemeral materials dated 1931-1932. Examples include programs for plays performed at ISTC, such as “Enchanted April” and “The Scarecrow”; programs from music performances by campus groups including the Aeolian Glee Club and the college symphony orchestra; a June 1932 booklet titled, “Student Life” featuring photos and descriptions of campus scenes; and the ISTC loyalty song printed on paper made of corn stalks, among other items.

This collection contains 11 images, in jpeg format, of digitized photographs from an ISTC alumni scrapbook. The images depict campus buildings and people around the early 1920s. The digtized images include handwritten captions for most of the photographs. Original file names of the jpegs, as assigned by the donor, are retained.

This collection consists of materials from Dorothy Hinson’s time at the Iowa State Teachers College. It contains: one sheet, with handwritten annotations, titled, “Primary Education Curriculum,” outlining different courses and general notes about the courses, dated May 1925; a Winifred Merril violin recital program, dated November 19; three term reports / credit sheets dated 1925-1926; and Dorothy’s ISTC diploma, dated March 12, 1929.

Scope and Contents This scrapbook dates from 1910 to 1912 and is titled, “Snapshots at ISTC.” A majority of the photographs are labeled with a caption and largely feature the same group of women. The photographs show the friends spending time together on the river, in the woods, outside during the winter, in dorm rooms, around the ISTC campus, and other areas in Cedar Falls, including Cedar Heights and Dry Run. The collection consists of William Blake's three diplomas from Teacher's College High School (May 1956), State College of Iowa (1963), and the University of Northern Iowa (1969), along with his 1963 Purple and Old Gold award.

Scope and Contents The Ila Mae Hemm collection contains materials from her years at ISTC/SCI that provide insight into student life on campus, including Greek life and campus events. The bulk of the collection is a 57 page scrapbook compiled by Hemm, which consists of ephemeral content such as news clippings, invitations, programs, brochures, and more. This collection contains Ned Petersen's 1965 University of Northern Iowa diploma; a letter from Dean William Lang regarding Petersen's inclusion on the Fall 1964 "Dean's Honor List"; and a "Hall of Scholarship" certificate (1965).
