Scope and Contents Grace Shining's expense book dates from 1905 to 1915 and spans the time when she was first enrolled at the Iowa State Normal School (ISNS) to her early teaching career. She was sixteen at the beginning of the notebook and twenty-five at its end. The bulk of the notebook covers her expenses while enrolled at ISNS, including tuition, clothing, car fare, room and board, and more.
