Charlene Doty George collection
Scope and Contents
The Charlene Doty George collection consists of materials from George's time as a student at the Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa). The materials date from 1949 to 1951. Included are science and poetry class materials, class assignments from English, Kindergarten Methods, Physical Education For Elementary Grades, School & Community Class, and a Student Teaching report.
The collection also contains George's ISTC scrapbook which consists of a variety of items documenting her life at the college. Included are campus event programs and invitations, student handbooks, student organization materials, Bartlett Hall materials (room deposit and room assignment notice), George's admission letter, greeting cards, and a handful of correspondence. The scrapbook also includes photographs and various ephemeral material, such as napkins, flowers, ticket stubs, and more.
Finally, the collection includes a 1951 alumni class directory and a couple of church Christmas bulletins.

Biographical / Historical
Charlene Doty George grew up in Hawarden, Iowa, before attending the Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in the fall of 1949. While a student at ISTC, she was a member of the Baptist Student Center, the Iowa Future Teacher Association, the Second Year KP Club, and Theta Epsilon. She graduated with her Elementary Teachers Diploma in June 1951. Her husband, Robert (Bob) George was also a member of the ISTC class of 1951, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts degree.
