Aletha Hutchison (Jacobs) Collection
The Aletha Hutchison (Jacobs) Collection is composed of materials documenting Hutchison's experiences both as a student and as a teacher in the rural school systems of Iowa and Pennsylvania. The collection includes official school records and Hutchison's personal papers providing insight into many facets of rural school life from 1898-1960.

Funnemark Family Collection
The Funnemark Family Collection contains educational publications and student records dating from 1912-1947. Student records include certificates, awards, and workbooks covering the following subjects: civics, arithmetic, geography, and history. Various issues of The Instructor and Children's Activities compose the educational publication collection.
Jane Fauser Collection
The Jane Fauser Collection is comprised of Black Hawk County, Iowa rural school student and teacher records from Black Hawk County, Iowa. Dating from 1902-1989, the majority of the records are from the donor's mother, Muriel Alice Parker, who attended Dunkerton Consolidated School or Mt. Vernon Township where the donor's father, George Knapp, attended. Jane Fauser is a sister of Nancy Brochers, who also has a collection at CHRIEC (see RSC/HEC/018).

Nancy Brochers Collection
The Nancy Brochers Collection contains Black Hawk County, Iowa rural school student records dating from 1905-1941. A majority of the collection originated in Mt. Vernon Township where the donor's father, George Knapp, attended. However, the collection also contains records from the donor's mother, Muriel Alice Parker, who attended Dunkerton Consolidated School. Nancy Brochers is a sister of Jane Fauser, who also has a collection at CHRIEC (see RSC/HEC/009).
Rough Woods School Collection
This collection, dating from 1924-1929, originated from the #3 Rough Woods schoolhouse located in Hardin County, Pleasant Township. Consisting solely of teaching aids known as the "Instructor Picture Series", the Rough Woods School Collection provides insight into the teaching methods utilized in rural schools. The "Instructor Picture Series" encouraged students to think critically about works of art and develop oral and written communication skills in the process.
Susan Hightshoe Collection
The Susan Hightshoe Collection consists of manuscript and printed teaching materials used by the donor's aunts - Helen Marine, Martha Schemmel, and Lorraine Turnipseed - during their careers in education. The records include plays, dialogues, poems, recitations, school program line-ups, and sheet music. The material dates from 1923-1942, although a majority of the items date from circa 1930s.
William L. Sherman Collection
The William L. Sherman Collection contains a variety of records pertaining to rural schools and rural school reenactment programs including rural school photographs, reproductions schoolbooks, brochures, and programs. Mr. Sherman continues to conduct research and to add to this collection.
