Harry Barck Collection
As the District Board of Education Secretary for Black Hawk County, Cedar Falls Township, #6 Eddy School, Harry Barck amassed a collection of rural school records that shed light on the duties of a school board officer. In addition to Mr. Barck's secretarial records, The Harry Barck Collection contains materials from Mrs. Pauline L. Barck (Hekel), a rural school teacher, and the student records of the couple's two children, Frances A. Brunskill (Barck), and Philip H. Barck.
Funnemark Family Collection
The Funnemark Family Collection contains educational publications and student records dating from 1912-1947. Student records include certificates, awards, and workbooks covering the following subjects: civics, arithmetic, geography, and history. Various issues of The Instructor and Children's Activities compose the educational publication collection.
August Meester Collection
The August Meester Collection is comprised of records dating from 1927-1955. The records were kept by the donor from his time as the District Board of Education Secretary for Grundy County, Pleasant Valley Township, #6.
Helen Marine Collection
The Helen Marine Collection, dating from 1943-1986, chronicles the donor's time as a teacher in Iowa and Washington Counties. Ms. Marine's teaching records provide insight into the transformation rural communities faced during the reorganization and consolidation process.
Rough Woods School Collection
This collection, dating from 1924-1929, originated from the #3 Rough Woods schoolhouse located in Hardin County, Pleasant Township. Consisting solely of teaching aids known as the "Instructor Picture Series", the Rough Woods School Collection provides insight into the teaching methods utilized in rural schools. The "Instructor Picture Series" encouraged students to think critically about works of art and develop oral and written communication skills in the process.
Jane Fauser Collection
The Jane Fauser Collection is comprised of Black Hawk County, Iowa rural school student and teacher records from Black Hawk County, Iowa. Dating from 1902-1989, the majority of the records are from the donor's mother, Muriel Alice Parker, who attended Dunkerton Consolidated School or Mt. Vernon Township where the donor's father, George Knapp, attended. Jane Fauser is a sister of Nancy Brochers, who also has a collection at CHRIEC (see RSC/HEC/018).
Lorraine Turnipseed Collection
The Lorraine Turnipseed Collection is composed of records dating from 1950-1995. Donated by Lorraine Turnipseed, a former Johnson County teacher, the collection contains teacher contracts, teachers' certificates, a graduation program, newspaper articles, photograph albums, and color slides.
Agnes Horn Collection
With records obtained during the donor's time at the Iowa State Teachers College and as a practicing teacher, the Agnes Horn Collection, 1918-1950, provides a glimpse into the life of an Iowa rural school teacher.
Paul McCulley Collection
Belonging to a family of educators from Benton County, the donor was inspired to collect educational records dating from 1872-1893, which are now a part of the Paul McCulley Collection.
Clark Van Hauen Collection
Donated by an avid collector of rural school records, the Clark Van Hauen Collection contains records associated with the Iowa State Teachers College. The records range in date from 1913-1949.
