Excelsior Society Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains five record books documenting the society’s minutes. The first book, dating from September 2, 1898 - May 25, 1900, consists of meeting minutes and a handwritten constitution. The second book, March 24, 1901 - May 29, 1902, contains meeting minutes. Book 3 includes a record of meeting attendees as well as meeting minutes from September 12, 1902- September 9. 1903. The fourth book contains meeting minutes from March 20, 1903 - November 17, 1905. The final book contains meeting minutes from March 18, 1904 - May 25, 1906. Each book contains a rewritten Constitution and By-Laws.

Biographical / Historical
The first meeting of the society was called on September 2, 1898 with Mr. Gass elected president; Mr. Kiensaw, vice president; Miss Virden, secretary; and Miss Scofield, marshal. The society was tasked with “the attainment of a higher standard of literary work of its members and a better understanding of parliamentary rules and literary regulations.”
