Biographical / Historical
A student organization dedicated to the biological sciences was first established at Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in 1926 as the Biology Club, which sought to assist biology students further their studies and to promote interest in biological sciences for those interested in the subject. Reorganization of the group began in 1932 after a successful effort to create a local campus chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (sometimes referred to as “Tri-Beta”) Honorary Biological Fraternity. Installation activities took place in 1934 with the establishment of the Delta Iota Chapter on campus. The organization has hosted many activities over the years for its members, including field trips, picnics, conventions, installation ceremonies, and more.
