Biographical / Historical

The American Foundrymen's Society is a group dedicated to helping students and apprentices nationwide learn how to properly work with metal, in welding, casting, and smelting. The University of Northern Iowa’s student chapter was founded in 1982 as construction began on the Center for Applied Research in Metalcasting. This student chapter of the AFS did metalwork, went on group field trips across the nation to various metalworking events, and students were able to receive metalworking and construction scholarships through the club.
