Robert and Virginia Bettle Postcard Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 36 postcards featuring University of Northern Iowa scenes throughout the school’s history. Many of the postcards contain personal correspondence, though not sent or received by the Bettles. They date as early as 1908, with some dating as late as 1955, with a variety of years in between. Writers and recipients vary and topics are generally quick life updates or bits of news.

Biographical / Historical
During his time at the State College of Iowa (later the University of Northern Iowa), Robert Bettle was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Beta Lambda, the Wesley Foundation, and the Young Republicans. In 1963, he graduated with a degree in mathematics. He was the CFO of Norwest Financial Corporation and a member of its board. He also served on the UNI Accounting Advisory Council and won a UNI Alumni Service Award.
Virginia Bettle was also a member fo the class of 1963, graduating with a degree in Lower Elementary. She was a member of a variety of organizations including the Wesley Foundation, Young Republicans, and Ki Primi Ki. Both served as members of the National Steering Committee for the Leading Building Sharing Campaign as well as co-chairs of the student scholarship endowment campaign, Students First. They also have contributed to scholarships, including the Virginia McShane Bettle Endowed Scholarship in Elementary Education, the Robert W. Bettle and Virginia McShane Bettle Mathematics Education Scholarship, and the Robert W. Bettle East High-Waterloo Endowed Scholarship.
