Aline E. Martinek Collection
Scope and Contents
The bulk of this collection dates from 1928-1934, with a few items dating later. It is comprised primarily of ephemeral materials such as brochures, programs, bulletins, handbooks, etc. Topics include different clubs of which Martinek was a member, such as the Y.W.C.A., Orchestra, and Eulalian Literary Society; commencement; music and other arts performances; and ISTC publications. Also included are two pennants: a large cloth ISTC pennant and 1 small paper ISTC pennant. Items of note include an “It’s Fun to Be a Teacher!” brochure, “Salary Schedules in Iowa Public Schools, 1956-1957,” an Alpha Delta Alpha dance card, and a Coe, Cornell, ISTC track meet score card for Harold Martinek.

Biographical / Historical
Aline E. Martinek was from Wesley, [Iowa], and attended the Iowa State Teachers College (ISTC), graduating in 1931 with a degree in Public School Music. While at ISTC, she was involved in many clubs including, but not limited to, the Eulalian Literary Society, the Choral Union, the Hamilton Club, Y.W.C.A., and the Orchestra Club. Following her graduation, she taught in the Algona Wesley township school and then taught English and music at the high school in Callendar, Iowa.
