Peat Marwick reports
Scope and Contents
Boxes 1 through 3, and folders 1 and 2 of box 4 relate to the Iowa Board of Regents decision to contract with consulting firm KPMG Peat Marwick to perform a study of Regents institutions, including the University of Northern Iowa. This was designated as Phase II of a broad look at the Regents institutions and included many aspects of operations, policies, and procedures of the Board, UNI, and other Regents institutions. Specifically, the study considered financial operations, strategic planning, management and administration, faculty workload, and unnecessary duplication of programs. The resulting recommendations sparked a certain amount of controversy on campus. The Pappas group, associated with Peat Marwick, undertook a follow-up study in 1995-1996 to assess the university's reaction to and compliance with the original series of reports; these materials are also part of this grouping.
The rest of this collection consists of various Peat Marwick reports focused on different aspects of the Regents institutions and UNI specifically, including academic freedom and accountability objectives; the Iowa Board of Regents budgeting process; and an analysis of UNI’s teacher education curriculum and UNI’s funding and equity.
