Scope and Contents

Jeremy Beck supervised graduated students and a concert series called, "New Music Iowa," while teaching at UNI. This collection contains materials reflecting that work. Included are four student composition recital cassette tapes, one New Music Iowa videotape, two New Music Iowa cassette tapes, and two digital audio tapes (DAT), also with New Music Iowa content. The DATs are accompanied by concert programs, which include handwritten annotations.

Beck also donated photographs, dating 1996-1997, from his time at UNI. He provided the following information: "The color photographs show a group of my undergraduate composition students working with guest artist Robert Levin, a talented composer and expert in Ghanian drumming. There is also a photo of a School of Music performance in Russell Hall, with student composers and percussionists on the West African drums and other students and faculty clapping and singing traditional West African songs. Finally, the black and white photo shows three of my undergraduate composition majors meeting with visiting Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Samuel Adler in 1996. The students are, left to right, Karen Reshetar, Seth Mulvihill, and Marcus Bishop."
