Jazz Archives

Scope and Contents The first jazz band performed on the University of Northern Iowa campus on February 28, 1951, in the Commons ballroom. The band's quality has since gained national recognition. These papers contain newspaper articles, photos, biographies of jazz band members, and recordings of the band over the last fifty years. Jeremy Beck Papers

Scope and Contents Jeremy Beck supervised graduated students and a concert series called, "New Music Iowa," while teaching at UNI. This collection contains materials reflecting that work. Included are four student composition recital cassette tapes, one New Music Iowa videotape, two New Music Iowa cassette tapes, and two digital audio tapes (DAT), also with New Music Iowa content. Karl and Martha Holvik Collection

Scope and Contents

The scrapbook consists of photographs and a few newsclippings relating to band trips and performances from about 1958 until about 1960. Some photos are labeled; many are not. Probably both Karl and Martha Holvik compiled this scrapbook at the time when the photos were taken. Martha Holvik gave the scrapbook to Tabitha Langis in 2005, when she was conducting research for her History of Bands at the University of Northern Iowa, 1892-2005.

Rebecca Burkhardt Papers

Scope and Contents The UNI Marching Band Collection, dating from 1963 to 1997, contains a variety of materials, largely from its times under the leadership of William Shepherd and John Vallentine.
