Scope and Contents
This collection contains a mix of personal and professional materials. Personal material includes biographical information about Charles Cory and his wife, Julia Hagerty Cory. Charles Cory’s professional files contain correspondence focused on a variety of subjects, such as: the collection of information about ISTC students who served during World War I; salary information; the dispute between Cory and Louis Begeman, concerning the latter’s belief that Cory was unfit to serve as Registrar; and correspondence President Maucker to / from various state official regarding Mrs. Cory’s wish to donate land to the college in memory of her husband. The collection also includes curriculum information; enrollment maps noting where students were from in the state of Iowa; and information about branch summer schools.

Biographical / Historical
Charles S. Cory was a member of the Iowa State Teachers College faculty for over forty two years. He first served as a professor of mathematics before assuming the role of Registrar, a position he held for nearly 25 years. Cory earned his Master of Didactics diploma at the Iowa State Normal School (now the University of Northern Iowa) from 1898 to 1900 and his Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of Iowa (1900-1902). Before joining the ISNS faculty, he worked as a rural school teacher, public school principal, and a city superintendent.
