Biographical / Historical

The All-College Conference on International Affairs, sponsored by the Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), was first held in 1957. It was started by Dr. George Poage, who also chaired the conference from 1957-1962. The goal of the first conference, focusing on the Middle East, was "to stimulate the thinking of the students at Iowa State Teachers College about the American role in world affairs, not just from a sideline seat, but from the personal view of a thinking, studying, active U.S. citizen." Conference subjects included countries and regions such as the Middle East, China, and Europe.
