Scope and Contents
The Student Involvement & Event Services records contain information and materials concerning the operations and activities of this University of Northern Iowa office. The collection dates from 1964 to 2018 and is arranged into the following series: Student Organization Budgetary files, Surveys and Assessments, Student Organizations, Student Leadership, and Homecoming.
The Student Organization Budgetary files date from 2009 to 2018 and consist primarily of UNI student organization financial and budgetary files for events and other activities sponsored by various UNI student organizations. Types of materials include financial information, invoices for purchased materials, correspondence, riders, contracts, and general information about some of the organizations represented. Types of events include concerts, art shows, speakers, Homecoming,
welcome week, and more.
The Surveys and Assessments series includes assessments of student activities conducted by Skyfactor Benchworks and Educational Benchmarking (EBI). These assessments sought to examine and identify program effectiveness and provide guidance for future work.
The Student Organizations series consists of materials covering a wide range of activities and business related to the operation of student organizations on UNI’s campus. Included are applications for Provisional Recognition of a Student Organization and Space in the Student Organization Center; UNI Student Organization registration forms; correspondence; meeting minutes; information update forms; and requests for approval for fundraising activity forms. Many of the folders also contain information about that student organization, such as officers, constitutions, by-laws, and proposed activities. The materials are organized according to the student organization.
The Student Leadership series contains files concerning various leadership programs and efforts on campus. The series includes Program of Distinction awards and nomination forms; and information about the Student Leadership Center and its programming / workshops, as well as campus-wide events like the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
The UNI Homecoming series is comprised of materials about preparation for Homecoming activities. The series dates from 1987 to 2007. It includes budgets and financial information; committee membership lists; ideas; schedules; parade manuals; and sponsor information.

Conditions Governing Access
Most materials are open for research. The Student Organization Budgetary files contain sensitive and personally identifiable information that must be reviewed by SC&UA staff before providing access.
General Use, Reproduction, and Copyright Policies
Many items housed in the Rod Library Special Collections & University Archives, including unpublished images and manuscripts, may be protected by copyright, publication rights, trademarks, or model release rights which the library does not own and for which the library cannot grant permission or licensing. Materials currently under copyright are usually still available for research and limited reproduction under Fair Use laws. However, it is the sole responsibility of the patron to determine whether or not their use of a given material falls within Fair Use guidelines and to obtain permission for said use from the rightful copyright owner.
Sensitive Materials Statement
Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy or similar laws, and the Iowa Open Records Law (see Iowa Code § 22.7). Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Northern Iowa assumes no responsibility.
Biographical / Historical
Student Involvement & Event Services at the University of Northern Iowa oversees many aspects of student life on campus including student organizations, events, the Panther Pantry, and student government, among other opportunities.
