Biographical / Historical
Alpha Beta Alpha is a national student organization specifically for library science students. It went on to become a national fraternity organization, and in 1956, the local Xi chapter was founded at Iowa State Teachers School (now the University of Northern Iowa). This group held monthly meetings and assisted at both the library in town and the campus library, as well as going out of state on several occasions to go to national conferences and visit national publishers. In mid-1971, at the final meeting of the Xi chapter, it was decided to disband due to poor enrollment, although there was still some correspondence between the campus associations and Alpha Beta Alpha until 1980.
