Biographical / Historical

The Young Socialist Alliance (YSA) was first mentioned in The Northern Iowan in the spring of 1972 and was a political organization representing socialists on campus. The YSA believed in socialism, the representation of labor, rights of workers and minorities, freedom for the oppressed and American poverty. The final mention of the YSA in The Northern Iowan is from a letter to the editor, October 12, 1990, written by Mark Cassill in opposition to the YSA.
