Women’s Caucus Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains papers from the Women’s Caucus student organization on the campus at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls, IA. Materials include issues 1 to 5 of the printed newsletter, Feminist Dialogue, which was written and published by members of the student organization from 1972 to 1973. The newsletters are 4 to 5 pages in length and contain illustrations, poetry, and columns on topics like the women’s liberation movement, rape culture, and marriage. The collection contains a bulletin titled “I AM A PERSON,” which was published in 1973 by an anonymous Women’s Caucus member urging readers to refrain from buying The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier because the head editor, Gene Thorne, refused to change the policy of female titles.

Biographical / Historical
Founded in 1969 and lasting until 1973, the Women’s Caucus served as an organization for female students at the campus of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) who wanted to participate in the women’s liberation movement. The organization shed light on issues such as feminism, sexism, and gender equality on campus through their newsletter, The Feminist Dialogue. This newsletter ran from 1972-1973. Members of the organization, such as students Pam O’Connor, Vicki Hudspith, Elaine Murdaugh, and Glee Cousino, also wrote in student newspaper, The Northern Iowan, about the stigma of the liberation movement and suggested to readers that what they were fighting for was important.
