Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials documenting Sigma Tau Gamma’s operations on campus. Materials include a chapter president’s notebook, by-laws, song books, correspondence (1972-1976), officer and committee duties, photographs, negatives, slides, “The Manual of Ritual” booklets, addresses and phone numbers of the President’s Advisory Council, a fraternity charter (1947), brochures, and recommendations for chapter operation.
The collection additionally contains pages from a scrapbook (1974-1977) that feature a variety of materials from Sigma Tau Gamma. Included are photographs (many with captions), newspaper clippings, flyers, programs, memos, letters, a roster, a booklet of Sigma Tau Gamma honors, sympathy cards regarding the passing of UNI student Patrick Murphy, a document about service projects (1971), and a pamphlet about the Sigma Tau Gamma 27th Grand Chapter.

Many items housed in the Rod Library Special Collections & University Archives, including unpublished images and manuscripts, may be protected by copyright, publication rights, trademarks, or model release rights which the library does not own and for which the library cannot grant permission or licensing. Biographical / Historical
Previously the local fraternity, Xanho, the Alpha Eta Chapter of the national fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma, was established at the Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in 1947. The group strove to promote lasting friendships and true brotherhood. Throughout its history, the group engaged in various events with other organizations, participated in service projects, and held parties, dances, and annual dinners. The organization is no longer active at UNI as of 2025.
