Biographical / Historical
The Neotrophian Society started in September 1891 with the purpose of helping “develop culture” amongst it all-women membership. The society held regular business meetings, as well as public events; debated other literary societies, such as the Irving Literary Society; and hosted receptions for rushees, various other programs, and more. Additionally, the Neotrophians, along with other women’s literary societies, held formals and competed against each other in intramural athletics. In 1928, the Neotrophian Society merged with the Chrestomethian Literary Society to create the Neo-Chresto Society, which lasted until 1933.
