Dean's Office files, 1949-2006
Scope and Contents
The collection is wide-ranging. It includes speeches by Deans Roy H. Saigo and Gerald W. Intemann as well as records of several committees in which the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences had a particular interest. There is also good information about some of the early organizational plans for the college administrative structure, shortly after the college was organized. Probably the strongest point of this collection is the material relating to the design, construction, renovation, and use of facilities for departments and programs in the College of Natural Sciences: namely, the Science Building (later McCollum Science Hall), the Industrial Technology Center, Wright Hall, Latham Hall, and the Center for Energy and Environmental Education. Material relating to the original construction of and later additions to McCollum Science Hall is especially detailed. The collection is also strong in documenting the development and early years of the Doctor of Industrial Technology degree in the Department of Industrial Technology. There is also an excellent fifty-year run of correspondence and reports outlining the involvement of the University of Northern Iowa with the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory.
