The Secret History of the Cedar Valley collection
Scope and Contents
The Secret History of the Cedar Valley collection documents the history of punk and underground music in the Iowa Cedar Valley, through print and audio form, primarily through materials used in the exhibit “The Secret History of the Cedar Valley” and its corresponding wiki. The collection contains photographs of bands and musicians performing; enlarged album covers; reprints of event fliers; and reprints of album covers. It also includes zines and newspaper clippings about regional music. In addition, the collection includes audio recordings in three formats: CDs, records, and cassette tapes. Finally, the collection contains web content captured using the web archiving tool, Archive-It. Technical Access
Audio content is recorded on CDs, cassettes, and records and requires special playback equipment for access and use. It may require the production of a listening copy. SC&UA staff will determine options for use on a case by case basis.

The Stebs ceramic model is very fragile and must be handled with care. Gloves are required.

This allows any of the materials to be reused and shared so long as derivative works are attributed to the collection, are non-commercial in nature and are released under a similar “share alike” license.”

Biographical / Historical
“The Secret History of the Cedar Valley” was an exhibit curated by University of Northern Iowa (UNI) professor Matthew Wilson. It ran from March 2007 to April 2007 at the Wartburg College Art Gallery in Waverly, Iowa. The exhibit featured information and materials related to prominent bands and musicians in the Cedar Valley as well as materials about lesser known people and groups. Musical genres consisted of alternative, punk, and underground.
