Biographical / Historical
The Muggletonians were a small Protestant sect formed by John Reeve (1608-1658) and his cousin, Lodowicke Muggleton (1609-1698) in the 17th century. The group was anti-science and firmly believed that the sun orbited the Earth based on their understanding of Scripture. They also did not worship or pray and embraced a materialistic view of the world. In their early days, Muggletonians did not hold organized meetings or establish churches, instead meeting in small groups at local pubs to socialize and discuss their ideas. In the 19th century they began operating out of a more permanent London location. The last known member of the organization passed away in 1979.
