Iowa Bandmasters Association Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection contains 10 spiral bound print volumes, titled "Directory and Handbook," dating from 2008 to 2020. They contain information about boards and committees, a brief history of the organization, awards and honors, resolutions, and membership information. Additionally, there are two issues of The Iowa Bandmaster: Volume 5, no. 1 (September 1940) and Volume 6, no. 3 (May 1942). Content includes short articles, information about members, pictorial essays, and more. Also included are a 1940 Iowa Bandmasters Association Directory and the President's Conference Newsletter from 2014. Finally, there are two photographs of Iowa Bandmasters Association members which include F.A. Schweizer (the editor of The Iowa Bandmaster).

Biographical / Historical
The Iowa Bandmasters Association is an organization that seeks to “promote excellence in bands through professional development, mentorship, performance, and advocacy.” It was founded in March 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa, and was originally called the Iowa Band Association. As of 2019, the organization has over 1000 members, a majority of whom are school band directors.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The 21st century material was donated by Fine and Performing Arts Collection librarian Angela Pratesi in 2017. Items from about 1936 to the 1940s were donated by Barbara Delgado, whose grandfather, Ferdinand Arno Schweizer, was a member of the association.
