Scope and Contents

These five letters were written by Ida Dytch to her friend, Agnes Stevenson, in Mason City, Iowa, in the fall of 1900 and the spring of 1901. She closely observed student life in Cedar Falls, Iowa, describing the school buildings, instruction and instructors, rooming house living conditions, religious services, customs, and fashions.

Ida Dytch was a student at Iowa State Normal School. She is listed in the Normal School Bulletin as being from Mason City, Iowa.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Mary Beth Janssen, a grandniece of Stevenson and a graduate student at UNI, allowed the University Archives to photocopy the letters in the fall of 1993. At that time Mrs. Janssen lived in Dougherty, Iowa.
