Biographical / Historical

Charles Northend (1814-1895) was a prominent educator, author, and consultant who lived and worked in New England. Born in Newbury, Massachusetts, Northend attended Dummer Academy before earning his A. M. degree at Amherst College. Upon leaving Amherst, he taught for nearly twenty years in Massachusetts schools and eventually became assistant to the state superintendent of schools of Connecticut.
