Biographical / Historical

Lindsay Seals spent time taking college classes in Salem, Indiana, from 1839 to 1840. Seals spent time in Indiana and, later, in Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota. He was involved with settling an estate in Missouri in 1850, a census of Clayton County, Iowa, in 1860, and the attempt to bring a railroad to Estherville, Iowa, in the early 1870s. By then Mr. Seals was a representative of the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Union Pacific Railroad Company. Other than that, few details about his life are available.

Extent

Custodial History

In 1909 Mr. Seals’ daughter, Laura S. Seals, loaned this notebook to The Association of Contributors to the Iowa Historical and Education Society. How and when it came to be in UNI’s Special Collections and Archives is unknown. However, in the front of the notebook there is a typed letter from 1943 from Indiana University asking to borrow the book from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI), which indicates it was in our possession by then.
