Scope and Contents
Consists of correspondence, news clippings, academic articles, research notes, graduate work, city council campaign materials, and newsletters documenting Paul Rider’s career as a chemist and UNI professor and his service as a member of the Cedar Falls City Council, the Hawkeye Community College Board, the Cedar Falls Community Coalition, and the campus coordinator for the external review of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).

Many items housed in the Rod Library Special Collections & University Archives, including unpublished images and manuscripts, may be protected by copyright, publication rights, trademarks, or model release rights which the library does not own and for which the library cannot grant permission or licensing. Biographical / Historical
Paul Rider is an emeritus faculty member in Chemistry. Born and raised in Des Moines, he earned his BA in Chemistry and Mathematics at Drake University in 1962, his MS in Chemistry and Metallurgy from Iowa State University in 1964, and his PhD in Physical Chemistry at Kansas State University in 1969. He joined the chemistry faculty at UNI in 1969, retiring in 2010. Rider served in the faculty senate, including two terms as faculty chair. He also sat on the Cedar Falls City Council from 1991-1998 and briefly served as acting mayor.
