These are primarily Thomas's studies (preliminary drawings) of scenes, people, plants, and animals he intended to include in his paintings. Almost all files also contain notes and/or clippings from newspapers and magazines related to his painting projects. In all cases, the labels on the folders are those assigned to them by the donor, Jerré Tanner.
