Scope and Contents

The University Archives Photograph Collection consists of prints and other photographic formats from various facets of campus throughout the University of Northern Iowa's history. The bulk of the collection pertains to the Iowa State Normal School, the Iowa State Teachers College, the State College of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa. A smaller number of materials relates to the surrounding community and region. Topics include athletics, campus activities, faculty and staff, campus buildings, student organizations, classes, and more. The collection ranges in date from c. 1869 to about the early to mid 2000s. Please note that there is some overlap between subjects and it is recommended to check multiple subject areas.

Many of the subject areas listed below also include oversize photographs; when a subject includes large format photographs, it has been noted in the finding aid. To access these, please ask SC&UA staff for assistance. Please note that some of the subject titles were created by the photographer and/or office. Such titles have been retained to maintain the creator's work. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please contact SC&UA staff.
