Biographical / Historical
The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) was created under the Groundwater Protection Act of 1987 and formally opened in 1988. Its goal is to provide Iowa small businesses with “environmental consulting, assistance, training and education” in efforts to preserve the natural environment. It is a national leader in this regard and offers a variety of services to assist businesses, including an On-Site Review to help determine such things as regulatory compliance and reduction of material waste. It also offers programs like the Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program and the Iowa Waste Exchange and Spray Technique Analysis and Research for Defense. Additionally, the IWRC has historically partnered with trade associations, community colleges, solid waste agencies, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
