Biographical / Historical

Computer Science was first introduced as the University of Northern Iowa as a component of the mathematics major in the late 1970s. By the early 1980s, the Department of Mathematics was offering a Computer Science major and a Computer Information Systems major. The two departments coexisted from 1982-1991, when a request to divide the two was approved. The Department of Computer Science was officially created on August 1, 1992.
