Scope and Contents

The Emmett J. Cable papers, dating from 1910 to 1963, contain materials related to Cable's professional work. Material types include administrative and personal correspondence, news clippings, personnel records, and materials from his radio talks.

Materials that arrived in 2010 included correspondence between Cable and Pauline Sauer, Cable's successor as head of the UNI Museum; news clippings, publications material associated with his interests and research; and material associated with the composition of his publications. Among the material associated with his publications is a large collection of photographs used as illustrations in his published work. University Archivist Gerald Peterson decided to combine this material into one collection in order to enhance research possibilities.

Materials acquired in 2020 consisted of additional materials and drafts used in Cable's publications. They are a mix of typewritten and handwritten notes and chapters detailing the solar system and constellations.
