Biographical / Historical
Douglas Vernier (b. 1943) was Director of Radio and Television Broadcasting at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) from 1972-2003, replacing Herbert V. Hake who retired after 34 years in the position. He earned his B.A. (1966) and M.A. (1968) degrees in Speech, Radio, and T.V. from the University of Michigan and completed Harvard University’s Executive Management Program in 1980. Prior to coming to UNI, Vernier taught broadcasting at Middle Tennessee State University, and managed WMOT-FM, a station he was responsible for putting on the air in 1969.
