Scope and Contents

The E. C. Fossum Papers focus on his radio program, Mend Your Speech, which began in 1948. Included in the collection are scripts of the program from 1948 and 1950-1951; newspaper clippings from 1945-1946 and 1972; a 1953 booklet on speech correctionists in schools; and an article published in a The Journal of Education in 1954 entitled “Cooperating with the Speech Correctionist.”

Biographical / Historical

Ernest C. Fossum (June 22-1905-May 21, 1989) was hired as an Assistant Professor of Speech in 1943. During the 1950-1951 school year, he became an Associate Professor in the department. He held this position until he joined the Placement Bureau in 1958 on a temporary basis. He was the Assistant to the Director of Placement for 4 years before becoming Director in 1962, a position he held until his retirement in 1973.
