Edward W. Amend Papers

 Collection
Identifier: 14/05/02/04

Scope and Contents

Edward Amend's papers relate primarily to his own research in the area of religion as well as material related to the courses that he taught. His research centered on commonalities between St. Augustine and Jean-Jacques Rousseau; the relationship between religion and modern literature; and death and dying. Some of his research material extends back to the time of his study at the University of Chicago. Folders relating to a specific course may include teaching material from other courses. Also, these folders may show how the courses changed over the years, with different source material emphases.

Professor Amend's papers relating to his teaching give an excellent view of the content of courses in religion and the humanities. Most of that material is arranged by course title. In nearly all cases, the material includes syllabi, examinations, and teaching notes. As noted above, there is some duplication between folders.

In order to get a fuller picture of Professor Amend's administrative career, researchers may also wish to consult other collections in the University Archives, including the papers of the Individual Studies Program and the papers of the Department of Philosophy and Religion.
