Biographical / Historical
The College of Humanities and Fine Arts (CHFA) was proposed following the State College of Iowa's designation as a university and its subsequent name change to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). The college was first proposed in 1967 and was officially established in July 1968 when UNI's college structure went into effect. It was one of UNI's original five colleges and initially consisted of the departments of Art, English Language and Literature, Foreign Languges, Music, and Speech. Over the course of its existence, departments were added, changed, and / or removed. CHFA was merged with the College of Natural Sciences in 2011 to create the newly established College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences.
