Scope and Contents

William Waack (1928-2018) was associated with teacher education at UNI in several important capacities. Of significance in this collection is material related to the Teacher Education Enrollment Cap Proposal (1991); the Field Experience Task Force (1984); the Master of Arts in Education (Professional Development) (1997); and the Goodlad Study on the Education of Educators (1988).

Conditions Governing Access

Most materials open for research. Box 20 is restricted. Materials related to the confidentiality of personnel, student, medical, and other legally protected records are CLOSED to researchers for 70 years from the date of creation. Consult the archivist with any questions or concerns.

Biographical / Historical

William Waack, Class of 1949, Iowa State Teachers College, joined the University of Northern Iowa faculty in the Department of Teaching in 1977 at the rank of Assistant Professor. From 1983 through 1988 he was an associate professor in the department. In 1988, he was promoted to the rank of Professor and Director of Teacher Education, a position he held until his retirement in 1998. Dr. Waack passed away in January 2018.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Professor Waack gave the contents of five boxes to SC&UA in the summer of 1998, the contents of another box in April 2003, and made other donations in smaller increments in following years.
