Information Systems and Computer Services files
Scope and Contents
This collection of files documents the history of the Information Services and Computer Services unit at the University of Northern Iowa from about 1989 through about 1996, with a limited number of files from before and after that period. The collection documents the rapid, sometimes difficult growth of academic computing on campus under the leadership of Director J. Michael Yohe. The collection includes a wealth of correspondence between Director Yohe and his staff, faculty, administrators, and people outside of the university on matters relating to the acquisition, maintenance, and use of computing technology. There is also documentation on the relationship of the university's systems to network systems off campus. Material relating to the vendors of computing technology provides a look at the products, services, and legal arrangements available to the university in the 1990s.

Arrangement
The collection is arranged in its original order, as it arrived at Special Collections & University Archives. Note to researchers: Dates on folder tabs are not always precise and inclusive: that is, a folder labeled 1994 sometimes includes material from both before and after that date. This is due to the rapidly changing computer product field and to the practice of incorporating older and newer files into existing files. There is also some imprecision regarding the calendar year and the fiscal year.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Information Systems and Computer Services staff brought the contents of Boxes 1-8 to SC&UA in April 2014, the contents of Boxes 9-10 in March 2015, and the contents of Box 11 in January 2016.
Processing Information
Boxes 1-8 processed by University Archivist Gerald L. Peterson, April 2014; boxes 9-10 processed, March 2015; Box 11 processed January 2016; updated, January 20, 2016 (GP). Updated by Library Associate Dave Hoing, November 2017 and April 2018. Linear Feet updated August 17, 2017.
