Scope and Contents

This collection consists of materials from the Council of Academic Department Heads, dating from 2003 to 2017, and covers the years that Bill Harwood, Kent Sandstrom, John Fritch, Keith Crew, and Jeff Copeland were council chairs. Included is email correspondence to and from the chair, meeting reminders, meeting minutes, agenda items, and handwritten notes. Some materials contain handwritten annotations. The collection covers topics such as grade change processes, the 2016 UNI presidential search, First Year Council, space policies, the Higher Learning Commission visit, committee representation, campus disability services, areas of study, and more. Materials are grouped together as they were upon arrival at Rod Library.

Most materials are open for research. Materials related to the confidentiality of personnel, student, medical, and other legally protected records are CLOSED to researchers for 70 years from their date of creation. Consult the archivist with any questions or concerns.

Biographical / Historical

The Council of Academic Department Heads focuses on issues and interests relevant across the University of Northern Iowa's (UNI) colleges and departments, its graduate programs, and Rod Library. Its membership is comprised of the heads and chairs of each academic unit on campus and reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President. Through the course of their work, the group provides recommendations to university leadership.
