Biographical / Historical

Edward Voldseth was born on May 29, 1922, in Montana. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Montana, his masters degree from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Iowa, in 1944, 1946, and 1958, respectively. Voldseth and his wife, Elizabeth, had four children.

Before coming to the State College of Iowa (now UNI) Voldseth was the assistant dean of men and instructor of business administration at Carroll College (Waukesha, Wisconsin) from 1946-1949. he then served as director of student affairs for men at Drake University from 1949 to 1956 and then become dean of students at the University of Alaska from 1958-1964.

Voldseth started his employment at SCI in 1964 as dean of students. In 1971, he was appointed vice president for university relations and development, serving in that capacity until 1977, when he was named assistant to the president for state relations and special events. In addition to his regular duties, Voldseth was UNI's member on the Board of Regents legislative liaison team and also served on the president's cabinet. He retired in 1987.

Voldseth was active outside of his career as well. He was involved in the Episcopal Church; was a board member of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary (Evanston, Illinois); was on the Cedar Falls Saving and Loan Association board of directors; and was a member and past-President of the Rotary Club of Cedar Falls, among other activities.
