UNI Gallery of Art records
Scope and Contents
The UNI Gallery of Art records date from 2001 to 2023. These materials were created and collected by Darrell Taylor during his tenure as the director of the UNI Gallery of Art, a role he held from 2003 to 2023. The collection consists almost exclusively of gallery files compiled during this time period. Types of materials include art on campus information, exhibit schedules, press releases, exhibit brochures and other promotional materials (including posters), and news clippings. The collection also contains exhibition photographs, both in print form and on CDs, and exhibition videos.
Also included in the collection are archived versions of the gallery website, captured using the web archiving tool, Archive-It.

Materials currently under copyright are usually still available for research and limited reproduction under Fair Use laws. Sensitive Materials Statement
Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy or similar laws, and the Iowa Open Records Law (see Iowa Code § 22.7). Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of Northern Iowa assumes no responsibility.
Biographical / Historical
The UNI Gallery of Art first opened on the University of Northern Iowa campus in 1978 and is part of the UNI Department of Art. Since its founding, the gallery has hosted a variety of exhibitions and exhibits curated and created by UNI faculty and students, as well as regional, national, and international guest artists. The gallery is also home to the UNI Permanent Art Collection, which houses materials ranging from prints to sculptures that were either donated or purchased, beginning in the 1930s. In the 1955, Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) president, J.W. Maucker, authorized funds be set aside for the Permenant Art Collection.
