Biographical / Historical

The Old Gold was the University of Northern Iowa's (UNI) annual yearbook from 1907 to 1969 and again from 1979 to 1997. It was first published in 1907, following The Normal Eyte (1906) and The Pedagog (1907) yearbooks. The Old Gold was published yearly until 1970, when it was shut down due to the 1969 issue containing "anti-administration sentiments" and an unpopular photo essay format. At this point the yearbook ceased publication and the UNI Quarterly took its place. The Old Gold was resumed publication in 1979 as a for-profit project created by a yearbook publishing company. In 1985, the yearbook switched to a self-supporting student publication under the administration of the Office of Public Relations. The Old Gold was last published during the 1996-1997 school year and officially stopped operations due to lack of funding and declining sales.
