Louisa County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Louisa County, Iowa dating from 1877-1970. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1957-1965”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1894-1970”, and “District and School, 1877-1956”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1957-1965” is composed of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series consists solely of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1894-1970 contains records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of High School Normal Training Records, Teachers’ Examination Records, Record of Teachers’ Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Teachers’ Record Cards, Teachers’ Reading Circle Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1877-1956” contains records created and/or utlized by individual districts and schools. This series contains Teachers’ Reports to the Superintendent, Daily Attendance Registers, and a Junior Red Cross Charter.
