Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Jones County, Iowa dating from 1885-1975. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into two series: “Office of the Superintendent, 1885-1975” and “District and School, 1892-1974”. Series 1. “Office of the Superintendent, 1885-1975” contains copies of records on microfilm that were created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of County Superintendents' Records, Teachers' Examination Records, Record of Teachers' Certificates, Teachers' Permanent Cumulative Records, School Officer and Teacher Record, Register of Teachers Employed, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 2. “District and School, 1892-1974” is composed copies of records on microfilm that were created and/or utilized by individual schools and districts. This series consists of Room Registers, Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, District School Censuses, Daily Attendance Registers, Library Reports, Pupils' Permanent and Classification Records, and Daily Programs.
