Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Harrison County, Iowa dating from 1912-1973. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series – “County Board of Education, 1929-1973”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1912-1976”, and “District and School, 1932-1966” -- which are sub-divided. Series 1. "County Board of Education, 1929-1973" contains records on microfiche created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series is divided into three sub-series: "Meeting Minutes, 1929-1973", "Financial Records, 1949-1973", and "Reorganization Records, 1958-1961". Sub-Series 1: Meeting Minutes, 1929-1973 consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes. Sub-Series 2: Financial Records, 1949-1973 consists of County Board of Education Financial Records. Sub-Series 3: Reorganization Records, 1958-1961 consists of Reorganization and Consolidation Records Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1912-1976" is comprised of records on microfiche created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series is divided into two sub-series: "Teacher-Related Records, 1912-1976" and "Pupil-Related Records, 1918-1974". Sub-Series 1: Teacher-Related Records, 1912-1976 consists of Record of Teachers' Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, and Teachers' Teaching Records. Sub-Series 2: Student-Related Records, 1918-1974 consists of Eighth Grade Examination Records, Incomplete-Drops and Transfers, and High School Grades and Graduation Records. Series 3. "District and School,1932-1966" is composed of records on microfiche created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. This series consists of Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, Daily Attendance Registers, and Teachers' Preliminary Reports.
