Hancock County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Hancock County, Iowa dating from 1904-1974. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1946-1967”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1904-1974 and “District and School, 1907-1957”. Series 1. "County Board of Education, 1946-1967" contains microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series consists solely of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes. Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1904-1974" is comprised of microfilmed copies of records relating to and/or originating from the Office of the Superintendent. This series includes High School Normal Training Records, Teachers; Examination Records, Record of Teachers' Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Record of Schools Taught, Record of Teachers in Rural Schools and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. "District and School, 1907-1957” is composed of microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. It includes Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, Room Registers, and Record of Heads of Families.
