Hamilton County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Hamilton County, Iowa dating from 1873-1963. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1927-1968”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1907-1968”, and “District and School, 1873-1958”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1927-1968” is comprised of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series contains County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and County Board of Education Financial Records. Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1907-1968" is contains rmicrofilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series is comprised of Superintendents' Record of Appeals, Record of Teachers' Certificates, Teachers' Teaching Records, School Officer Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1873-1958” contains records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by individual schools and districts. This series consists of Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, Room Registers, Daily Attendance Registers and Daily Programs.
