Chickasaw County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Chickasaw County, Iowa dating from 1895-1969. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1895-1975”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1902-1968”, and “District and School Records, 1935-1969” -- which are sub-divided by format where necessary. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1895-1975” contains records produced by the County Board of Education. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1895-1961 consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes, Plat Maps, and Atlases. Sub-Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1895-1975 contains County Board of Education Financial Records, Plat Books, and an Atlas. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1902-1968” is composed of records created by the Office of the Superintendent. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1902-1968 consists of Record of Teachers' Certificates, Teacher Applicant Record, and an Iowa School Officers Manual. Sub-Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1902-1968 contains Teachers' Record Cards and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1935-1969” contains records created by individual schools and districts. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1935-1961 contains District Board of Education Financial Records and Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent.
